The Value of One-Stop Healthcare Facilities

One-stop healthcare facilities are one of the most innovative medical concepts to date; providing a wide range of services in one location offers convenient, holistic care to the community in a single visit.

What Services Do They Provide?

These centers combine primary, mental and behavioral healthcare, serving as the one place residents can receive primary care for health conditions such as diabetes or blood pressure alongside services related to their mental and behavioral health–including medication management for addiction, addiction counseling and therapy. With active and visible prevention services and recovery programs, these facilities are also designed to destigmatize mental health and substance use treatment.

Who Can Benefit?

Everyone! Adults can receive extensive support services to address mental health and substance use. Youths can benefit from services ranging from screening and assessment to counseling and intervention for behavioral problems. And the whole family can participate in multifaceted therapies, working with a therapist to move from crisis to wellness.

Communicare’s Role

Because of the life-changing benefits these facilities provide, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recently awarded $250 million in grants to 100 certified community behavioral health centers. The funding includes $77 million from the American Rescue Plan, which addresses the increased need for “coordinated and centralized care” and “easy-to-access treatment and services” amid the global pandemic.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra stresses that “increased support for mental and substance use treatment can be a critical lifeline to communities across the country” and that the funding reflects the “commitment to expanding access to quality care for everyone in need.”

Communicare is one of the facilities receiving SAMHSA funding. As a certified community behavioral health clinic serving six counties in Mississippi, we provide high-quality clinical services while also operating a residential substance abuse treatment and offering school-based services in public schools. We will be expanding into a one-stop model to increase community access to essential healthcare and quality behavioral health services. Our facilities will cater to the whole family, providing 24/7 crisis intervention and emergency response, as well as traditional healthcare.
